The first step in any kind of treatment and in this case plastic surgery is consultation. This is basically a session where the doctor and the patient have a short discussion and the doctor does a medical evaluation on his client. This is the same thing that happens during a plastic surgeon consultation. It is at this time that you would get to discuss your concerns and goals with the surgeon in a view of determining whether you are a suitable candidate for plastic surgery.

For any qualified plastic surgeon, his first major issue would be to make sure that you are physically and emotionally fit enough to go through the surgical process and be able to recover successfully. This is the time when you need to open up your heart to the surgeon and make them know any concerns you might be having before embarking on the exercise.

What happens during a plastic surgeon consultation?

- The first thing that is done during the initial consultation would be the surgeon to take some information about your medical history. You need to answer these questions with utmost honesty at all times. The surgeon will ask about any pre-existing medical conditions, medications and whether you are a cigarette smoker.

- After realizing that you are suitable candidate, the plastic surgeon will then discuss the surgery options in detail. It is at this time that he will offer you information regarding what you have to expect before, during and even after the surgical procedure.

- If you have some realistic expectations, you are definitely a viable candidate for these kinds of procedures. You therefore have to be comfortable with the results that would come out. This is the reason why it is always advisable to make sure that any decision to take up plastic surgery should be made by you and you alone. Perhaps it would be a good idea to do some research on some people who have undergone these kinds of procedures before and get to know what they feel about the results they got. In the past, there have been cases of mishaps in these procedures and therefore you need to make sure that you understand these details.

- Most importantly, you would have to make sure that you are as fit as possible. This is both physically and emotionally. Therefore, these are elements that you need to take note of. Overweight people and smokers are not viable candidates for these procedures. These are but some of the details you would have to discuss with your surgeon.
